Keep Your Dog’s Teeth Clean

Keep Your Dog’s Teeth Clean

February is pet dental health month.  This is a great time to share with you a few tips on how to keep your dog’s teeth clean. We all know that good pet care involves great food, exercise, and yes, healthy teeth and gums! No one likes yucky dog breath; we’re betting even your dog doesn’t! With a few simple tips you can help keep your dog’s teeth clean and healthy.

Keep your dog's teeth clean

Crunchy foods

A good crunchy kibble is a great way to start in caring for your dog’s teeth. Just like apples and carrots help us keep our own teeth healthy and strong, a dry kibble does the same for your dog (or cat, for that matter).

Chew Toys

Chew toys are an excellent way to keep your dog’s teeth clean. They help to get rid of plaque and tartar build up.  Chew toys are also a great way to stave off boredom, which can lead to bad habits for your pups, like chewing on your shoes instead!

Dog Dental Treats and Chews

Dog dental treats, like those by Greenies, are an excellent way to help your dog’s dental health. Most dog dental treats are designed to remove plaque build up on your dog’s teeth and also to freshen breath. Who doesn’t love that?  Natural dog chews like cow’s ears and bully sticks are also great ways to remove plaque while your pup gets entertainment and a treat!

Regular brushing and check ups

If your pup suffers with lots of tartar and plaque build up, brushing is a good option. Doggie “toothpastes” that taste like chicken are available and we bet your pet won’t mind a weekly brushing too much! Regular vet check ups are also a great way to ensure your pup is healthy from nose to tail!
